Here are some common statements from abusers. Some of these may\u00a0even seem reasonable or acceptable in certain situations, but they are not. Abusive behavior is pervasive and without awareness, it will continue.<\/p>\n<h4>Emotional\/Mental Abuse<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>A good husband (or wife) would do this for me.<\/li>\n<li>This (abuse) is for your own good.<\/li>\n<li>I will hurt myself if you leave me.<\/li>\n<li>You have a bad memory; I know what really happened.<\/li>\n<li>Your family or friends can\u2019t be trusted, you can only trust me.<\/li>\n<li>No one will ever love you like I do.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re confused, I know what is right.<\/li>\n<li>If you don\u2019t do this, I\u2019ll leave (divorce) you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Economic Abuse<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u2019s not stealing when it\u2019s family.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m in control of you even at work.<\/li>\n<li>You can\u2019t manage money so I have to keep you out of the accounts.<\/li>\n<li>You don\u2019t deserve the things I give you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Physical Abuse<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>I only hurt you because you hurt me first.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m stronger\/more powerful\/smarter than you.<\/li>\n<li>I have to hit you to get your attention.<\/li>\n<li>You make me feel so angry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Spiritual Abuse<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The Bible says you have to have sex with me, so do it.<\/li>\n<li>You have to submit to me, God said so.<\/li>\n<li>I am an example for the whole church so you have to behave perfectly.<\/li>\n<li>No one could forgive you for what you have done.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Sexual Abuse<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>I have to have sex and it\u2019s your duty to give it to me.<\/li>\n<li>When you do \u2026, then I\u2019ll have sex with you.<\/li>\n<li>If you don\u2019t have sex with me, then I\u2019ll have to have it with someone else.<\/li>\n<li>Just do this one (sexually degrading) thing one time and then I\u2019ll be satisfied.<\/li>\n<li>This is our little secret, no one needs to know.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=theworthydad\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ever wondered what an\u00a0abuser says to their victim to get them to acquiesce?
