Dallas gets men’s domestic violence shelter

Back in February, I posted a story about the first of its kind, all-male victims’ shelter in Arkansas. Now Dallas has stepped up to the plate and opened the first men’s shelter in Texas. Way to go, Dallas! Hopefully the start of many more across the United States.

In October of last year, The Family Place shelter announced plans to dedicate a shelter to male victims and their children beginning this year. The new facility is open, and helps to accommodate a growing demand among victims who need a place to stay after fleeing their abuser.

The Family Place Services include:

  • Intensive counseling
  • Medical and dental care
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Day care
  • K-2 school and after-school programs for children
  • Job, technical and life skills training for adults

Their Safe Campus provides everything victims and their children need to stay safe and escape from their batterers at one confidential location – all easily and safely accessible.

If you are in need of emergency shelter, call the 24-hour Crisis Hotline at 214-941-1991.
